On 7 July 2020, Professor Mitinori Saitou, Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (WPI-ASHBi), has been elected as a new Associate Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

On EMBO is an organization of more than 1,800 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond. EMBO Membership honours distinguished scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the life sciences, including 88 Nobel Laureates who have/have held EMBO Membership.

This year, 52 new EMBO Members from European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC) Member States and 11 Associate Members from outside of EMBC Member States have been newly elected a lifetime honor of EMBO membership in recognition of their remarkable achievements in life sciences.
