Research Overview

Mathematical modeling with computational differential equations

My primary research interests lie in the domain of computational and applied mathematics, with a strong focus on mathematical biology. Within this field, I develop mathematical models that incorporate appropriate partial differential equations (PDEs) to effectively capture and study a wide range of biological phenomena. My research endeavors are driven by a deep passion for designing and analyzing such models and developing numerical algorithms to solve the associated PDEs. Subsequently, I engage in simulations and thorough data analysis and visualization to comprehensively illuminate biological systems. Given the intricacies inherent in biophysical modeling, I am actively involved in data-driven model parameter inference, particularly in leveraging noisy qualitative data to alleviate the high precision demands often placed on experimental data by biologist collaborators.
Within this research framework, I particularly focus on the mechanosensitive ion channel, PIEZO1, which plays a pivotal role in the developmental processes and dynamic behaviors of diverse cell types. In a recent research project, I embarked on unraveling the contributions of PIEZO1 to collective migration in the context of skin wound healing, using an integrative approach involving both experimental and mathematical modeling techniques.

Biography

Jinghao Chen received his PhD in Mathematics from University of California, Irvine (2024), under the supervision of Professor John S Lowengrub. He is currently appointed as a Program Specific Researcher in ASHBi at Kyoto University since August 2024, working with Professor Seirin S Lee.
