SciComm 101: Tips for sharing your science news with the world

“SciComm 101: Tips for sharing your science news with the world” was held online on June 25, 2021. Over 370 participants including researchers and public relations officers from Kyoto Universities and other universities and research institutions.

The seminar provided practical methods and knowledge about the differences between academic writing and media writing, storytelling techniques, the use of images and video in news releases, the process of creating a press release for research papers, and how to work with PR professionals.

We invited Mr. Brian Lin as the instructor of this seminar. He is one of the world-leading science communicators with over 20 years’ experience. After leading the media training program at the University of British Columbia in Canada, he moved to AAAS’ EurekAlert, one of the world’s largest science news platforms, in 2014, where he currently oversees editorial content strategy. Since his arrival, he has successfully tripled the number of visitors to EurekAlert!.
