On 20 December 2019, the Uehara Memorial Foundation announced the awarding of the Uehara Prize for 2019 to Professor Mitinori Saitou, director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (ASHBi), a part of KUIAS, for his research on the theme of “Mechanism and In Vitro Reconstitution of Mammalian Germ Cell Development.” The Uehara Prize presentation ceremony will take place in Tokyo on 11 March.
In February 1985, the Uehara Memorial Foundation was established as a 70th anniversary project of Taisho Pharmaceutical to commemorate the footsteps of their honorary chairman, the late Shokichi Uehara. The objective of the Uehara Memorial Foundation is to promote research in pharmaceutical development and other life science fields to enhance people’s lives and welfare. The Uehara Prize (Research accomplishment prize) is awarded to researchers in the field of life sciences actively engaged in original research that has produced notable accomplishments.
