柊グループは生物の発生におけるロバストネスを研究し、多細胞システムの自己組織化を可能にする設計原理を理解することを目指しています。 自己組織化は生命システムを決定づける特徴であり、時空間スケールをまたいで分子や細胞、物理のシグナルが複雑に相互作用し合うことを意味します。哺乳類の初期胚をモデルに、私たちは遺伝子工学や最先端顕微鏡、生物物理計測、マイクロ工学技術、数理モデルなどの幅広い手法を駆使し、細胞の塊から形やパターンが自己組織化する仕組みを明らかにしています。
