[Event Report] The 2nd ASHBi SignAC Workshop: Integrating Single-cell Analysis and Mathematics
ASHBi held the 2nd ASHBi SignAC Workshop: Integrating Single-cell Analysis and Mathematics on 10 December 2021, online! A total of about 250 researchers and students from Japan and abroad participated in the workshop.

The 2nd ASHBi SignAC workshop was held to overview recent trends in single-cell biology. The workshop particularly featured how mathematics has been applied to the analysis of the high-dimensional data obtained from single-cell techniques. The keynote speaker in the morning session was Dr. Schiebinger. He talked about his pioneering work of applying optimal transportation theory to trajectory inference from time-series single-cell transcriptome data.
In Session 1, Dr. Nishiyama, Dr. Takei, and Dr. Ochiai talked about cutting-edge technologies to unveil genome regulation at single-cell and single-molecule resolution. In Session 2, Dr. Hon first discussed single-cell multi-omics analysis. Then, Dr. Yamanishi, and Dr. Imoto introduced their novel mathematical methods to extract valuable information from such high-dimensional data. In Session 3, Dr. Yamamoto and Dr. Suzuki presented how the recent single-cell technologies can be applied to tackle problems in hematopoiesis and cancer biology, respectively. Finally, at the keynote lecture in the evening, Dr. Dumitrascu discussed how multi-layered data can be integrated and analyzed with advanced mathematical approaches, and provided future perspectives.
The series of lectures highlighted that the progress of molecular biology and mathematics are stimulating each other to develop the single-cell biology field. We hope the workshop was full of inspiration for all the participants.
